Stanley is a male neutered Bernese Mountain Dog. He was two years old on 02-23-2019.
Stanley, really wants a home and person he can call his very own. He is a smaller male, with a nice, moderate coat and enjoys brushing. He is currently in a Foster Home in Franklin NC and spending most of his time with their Berner girls. The girls generally get along with him. Stanley will be a wonderful couch warmer for the right home. The ideal home should be a quiet environment with a single adult or couple without children. He wants to be closely attached to his owners and can show signs of guarding behavior over his owner(s)/property. He feels his job is to patrol the fence and bark at strangers doing a morning patrol and a couple more throughout the day. History: He was in a rescue program in Michigan and was shipped to the Raleigh area into a new home where he had a disagreement with their family cat – he lost that battle and an eye in the process. After multiple surgeries to repair the injury, he was moved to the care of a trainer which turned out to be too stressful for this young boy. Just too much and too fast for him to handle. During yet another vet exam for suture removal, he became fearful and lashed out which quickly labeled him as aggressive. He shut down and gave up on life. His current, very experienced, foster home has had him since July 2018 for extensive evaluation and socialization. She is very familiar with him and his personality. He has never attempted to bite his Foster Mom even though she has pushed/tested him during this lengthy evaluation time frame. She even tried to get him to bite her and he refuses. He slowly came out of his shell but still has a little way to go. Companionship of a loving owner should do the trick. She now feels he is ready for a forever home without other dogs or a lot of noisy activity. Behavior: He is intense about his time with his Foster Mom and desperately wants her attention without sharing her with other dogs. He is bossy with her female dogs attempting to herd them using a common nipping style and does not get along with other males. He, like many, does not like having his nails done, but does let her do them. She is just very patient and takes her time. He attempts to hold her hand during the process. Please contact the Rescue Coordinator if you can help find a new home for Stanley. |
