A group of Berner owners and breeders from North Carolina and southern Virginia met informally for several years. Our thoughts were to get to know each other and to learn more about our chosen breed. As time passed, we became more involved in educational events and formal competition. We started gathering even more members and then officially formed Blue Ridge Bernese Mountain Dog Club in 1997.
Today the club takes pride in not only our work toward helping raise public awareness of the Bernese Mountain Dog and responsible ownership, but also our work to improve the future of our breed. Our members take part in community events such as parades and local shows. They are active in supporting research efforts to help wipe out some of the health issues affecting our breed. They work with their dogs visiting local nursing homes and hospitals and compete in everything from AKC and UKC conformation and obedience, to BMDCA draft tests. .
